The United Agricultural Employee Welfare Benefit Plan & Trust (UABT) was established in March of 1983 under the provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) by a group of agribusiness employers. These employers were all members of UnitedAg. They believed then and now that this was the best way they could provide their employees quality health benefits at a minimum cost.

On December 29, 1995, UABT was informed by the California Department of Insurance that UABT had been awarded the first Certificate of Compliance. This license confirmed UABT had passed the exhaustive evaluation of our financial condition, stop loss arrangements, claims adjudication and administrative procedures.

Today, more than 1,000 agribusiness employers, with over 55,000 members, trust UABT to provide their health benefits. The annual employer contributions total over $198,000,000! UABT maintains its reputation within the agribusiness community as providing affordable health and welfare benefit plans tailored to the needs of its participating UnitedAg members.

  • 1st Preferred Provider Organization offered in agriculture (PPO) (1983)

It is important for you to know about UABT's Board of Trustees. This committee of Agribusiness leaders are all employers who themselves participate with their employees in UABT health plans. The Board of Trustees oversees all major UABT decisions.
