UnitedAg Awards $107,000 to 80 Scholarship Recipients

Irvine, CA - Anthony Vollering Chair of the Board, announced that UnitedAg has awarded 80 scholarships for the 2016 academic year. UnitedAg has awarded freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students in the amount of $107,500 total. Applicants are chosen from several counties including, Ventura, Tulare, Stanilus, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, San Joaquin, San Diego, Sacramento, Riverside, Monterey, Merced, Maricopa, Lyon, Kings County, Fresno, Campbell and Arapahoe.

Through its Agribusiness Education Foundation (AEF) UnitedAg provides financial assistance to advance the educational goals of its members, their employees, as well as employees’ dependents (children and grandchildren).

All students that submitted applications come from United Ag’s 650 membership base. Currently, the 32 young men and 48 young women are all in pursuit of careers and degrees within the agribusiness and outside the industry. The yearly scholarship provides amounts ranging from $500 up to a maximum of $6000, each year, to assist students in covering important costs such as tuition, fees, books, as well as room and board.

UnitedAg’s Scholarship Committee recommended 80 students to the Board for their consideration of scholarship on the basis of academic merit. The Committee also oversees the UnitedAg scholarship process, including reviewing applications, setting guidelines and submitting recommendations to the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees,

The committee also assists in raising funds. The primary fundraisers for the foundation are events related. The Annual Golf Tournament, AEF WalkAthon and Silent Auction’s are held yearly during the UnitedAg Annual Conference.

In 2000, UnitedAg founded the Agribusiness Education Foundation (AEF), a non-profit §501(c)(3) charitable foundation, with the purpose of helping members, employees of members and their families pave a way to educational and future success. Since its inception, UnitedAg has awarded over $1.1 million in scholarship support to over 580 students.
