COVID-19

All CA Assembly Employees to Be Required to Receive COVID-19 Vaccine

All employees with the California Assembly will be required to become fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon said Monday in a tweet.

Staff will be required to begin the process of full vaccination by Sept. 1, Rendon said. Members will be given time off to receive the vaccine, and vaccine clinics will be hosted soon.

The announcement comes as yet another surge of COVID-19 cases is leading to a troubling situation with hospital bed capacity dropping.

"I am looking ahead to the end of the pandemic, when every Californian can go outside their home and feel safe to live their lives, work, go to school, and enjoy time with their friends and family at public events," a statement from Rendon reads. "To reach that goal, we need to encourage everyone to be fully vaccinated. That is the example we are setting with this action."

Rendon's statement did not include any information on if exemptions for religious purposes will be made.

California officials announced last week that all school staff will be required to receive the vaccine or undergo regular coronavirus testing.
